The North American based automaker Ford has officially announced its plans to offer a CNG package for the 2016 F-150.
The 2016 Ford F-150 has gained a CNG package and it will become available for order this summer. According to the car manufacturer, the package will cost 315 USD and it will include the special valve seats, the new exhaust valves and the upgraded intake. Customers will have to take the model to a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier in order to complete the conversion and this will cost between 7,500 USD to 9,500 USD, depending on the fuel tank capacity.
“We surveyed customers likely to use natural gas or propane, and 72 percent told us they want to have these alternative-fuel capabilities available on F-150 with the 5.0-liter V8 engine. We expect the gaseous-fuel prep package will be even more popular than it was on the 2014 F-150 with the 3.7-liter V6 engine, given the capability of the 2016 F-150 5.0-liter V8”, said the Ford fleet sustainability and technology manager, Jon Coleman.
Ford says that the 2016 F-150 trucks which are running on propane or on CNG will be able to tow the same amount as if they were running on gasoline. Payload capability hasn’t been affected by the conversion either and despite the fact that the conversion costs quite a lot, keep in mind that compressed natural gas is way cheaper than petrol. Ford has managed to sell more than 57,000 CNG / propane powered vehicles, which represents 7 times more than all other major U.S. automakers combined, since 2009.
