Mercedes-Benz is currently working on what is believed to be an even more powerful version of its compact hot hatch, the A45 AMG.
Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW are taking their battle to the compact segment for hot hatches and while BMW has the M135i, with 316 HP (235 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque, coming from the N55 straight DOHC six-cylinder unit and Audi is offering 367 HP (270 kW) and 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) of torque from the 2.5 liter turbocharged gasoline burner, Mercedes-Benz is in the middle with its A45 AMG.
The vehicle in question is packing a total output of 362 HP (266 kW) and it has a peak torque of 465 Nm (342 lb-ft), coming from the 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo unit. This is enough to offer it a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint of 4.6 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). But things are about to change as the company is planning a facelifted version of the model which is rumored to get the A45 AMG S variant too.
This should be producing about 375 HP (280 kW) from the same 2.0L turbo unit, which will allow it to be 0.1s faster in the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration and to achieve the same limited top speed. Besides the power bump, the model will also get an updated look as this will come with the facelift. Expect the different front and rear fascias and some tweaks made to the cabin too. The whole range of the A-Class will be updated.
