Audi has announced the official starting price of the new A3 E-Tron plug-in hybrid in the United States.

The “green” compact hatchback is now available for order across the nation as the company has officially announced its starting price. According to the car manufacturer, customers will have to pay 38,825 USD for the model, while the mid-range Premium Plus will be setting you back for 42,925 USD. The range-topping Prestige has been priced at 47,725 USD. The PHEV will be eligible for the 4,168 USD federal tax credit and additional state tax credits will also be available depending on the state.

“The A3 Sportback e-tron provides a comprehensive approach to sustainable mobility by combining the benefits of a hybrid with all-electric range. It is a package that makes the A3 Sportback e-tron a versatile choice for the full array of daily commuting challenges, some of which can be handled on battery power alone. The plug-in hybrid will launch at dealerships nationwide in October. EPA figures will be announced in the near future once they are available from U.S. regulators”, says the automaker in its press release.

The Audi A3 E-Tron is making use of a 1.4 liter TFSI four-cylinder petrol burner, rated at 147 HP. This is backed up by an electric motor adding an extra 100 HP. The peak torque of the assembly is 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) and this is allowing the car to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 7.6 seconds, before going to a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph). The CO2 emissions stand at 37 g/km and, in ideal conditions, the charged battery will provide you with an electric range of 50 km (31 miles).
