Volkswagen’s premium automaker Audi Ag. has released the first renderings of the A5 DTM concept, ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The two-door A5 will replace the A4 sedan as Audi’s entrant in the race series. It will be based on the refreshed 2013 version of the A5.
It will meet the new technical regulations for 2012 that have been created by the German federation DMSB and series promoter ITR together with the manufacturers.
“In 2012 new Technical Regulations will come into effect in the DTM, ” said Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. “We’ve got exactly the right model for that in the A5. We’re convinced that we’ll be able to continue Audi’s success story with it in the DTM.
The V8 engine is more or less the same as in the current DTM regulations (approximately 460 PS (340 kW / 456 PS ) and the gearbox is going to be identical, meaning a six-speed sequential gearbox.
The first prototype of the R17 is currently being built up at Audi Sport in Ingolstadt. The roll-out is just around the corner. The new Audi A5 DTM will be unveiled to the public at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt.
