The German based automaker Audi is planning to introduce a direct rival for the BMW i3, which will be named the e-tron.
With BMW getting ready to enter the premium electric car segment very soon, with its i3, the competition at Audi can’t stay aside from the battle and it’s currently planning to develop a rival for the BMW vehicle. According to the guys at automobile-produktion.de, the new Audi premium electric vehicle will probably be named the Audi e-tron, and, despite its “green” powertrain and premium materials which will be used in the cabin, the model is expected to go on sale for less than 30,000 euros.
The upcoming Audi e-tron is expected to get an electric motor under its hood, which should produce a total output of 116 HP and 270 Nm of torque. This should be enough to allow the model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 150 km/h. The electric unit will be helped by a powerful battery, which will allow it to range 200 km, on a single charge. The battery’s charging time will depend on the power source and it should sit between 30 minutes and 4 hours. The Audi e-tron will be based on the Volkswagen E-Up! and it will hit the market in 2015.
