Audi has recently pulled the wraps off the new R18 e-tron Quattro race car, which will make its racing debut sometimes in 2014.
After releasing the first details with the new Audi R18 e-tron Quattro just a few days ago, the German based automaker’s motorsport division is placing the model into the spotlights once again, this time with its official unveil. During the event, Audi has confirmed the laser lights and the LED headlights which will help the driver even more.
“By using this new lighting technology Audi is setting yet another milestone at Le Mans. Laser light will also open up completely new possibilities for our production models in the future. Once more, motorsport at Audi accelerates a new technical development for our customers”, said Audi’s member of the management board for technical development, Ulrich Hackenberg.
The 2014 Audi R18 e-tron Quattro is 20 mm taller, 100 mm narrower and 30 percent more economical when it is compared to its predecessor. As far as the engine goes, the racer will be getting a V6 TDI mid-engine under its hood, which will send power to the rear-wheel drive, while the front axle will be driven by an e-quattro hybrid system. Audi says that the R18 e-tron Quattro will be making its racing debut on the 20th of April, at Silverstone, during the 6-hour race, and it will also make its way to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, two months later.
