Volkswagen’s premium carmaker Audi Ag has very ambitious plans according to the Reuters news agency.
The Germans are planning to increase their number of crossover offerings from three to seven by 2019 – from a little Q2 model up to an ultra- luxury Q9 model.
Considering that at this moment Audi offers the Q3, Q5 and Q7 we expect Q2, Q4 (will compete most probably with the upcoming BMW X4) Q6 that will compete with BMW’s X6, and an ultra-luxury Q9 that will enter competition (probably) with the next Jaguar SUV.
On the same time, Mercedes-Benz is preparing to add three new crossover models – the GLA, the GLC and the MLC.
GLA was already unveiled by the Germans last week and will make public debut during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show next week in Germany. Initially the compact crossover will be available with a choice of two petrol units and a 2.2-litre diesel engine with either 136 or 170bhp.
Only the most powerful models of each engine will be available with the 4MATIC 4wd systems. A front-wheel drive GLA250 will also be available in early 2015.
BMW, the largest premium carmaker in the world has four different crossovers in its lineup and is preparing to add a fifth model, the X4. Unveiled as a concept model at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, the X4 is based on the same underpinnings as the X3 – and will be assembled at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Therefore we expect engine lineup to be quite similar to the actual X3.
There are some rumors regarding a possible X4 M model.
