Audi is planning to develop a new small crossover based on the A1 model which will be named the Q1.
According to the guys over at whatcar.com, the German based automaker is currently planning to make a new small-sized crossover, based on the A1 model, which might hit the market as the Q1. Our source is also saying that the Audi Q1 crossover has been inspired by other small crossovers and even by the company’s SUV lineup, with the Q7, Q5 and Q3. If the new model will get a green light for the production line, this might be launched anywhere from 2013 to 2016, so those of you who were looking to get some interesting features from the Q7 to an even smaller crossover will have to wait.
“You’ve seen how our SUVs have been getting smaller – Q7, Q5, Q3 – and the A1 platform could go in that direction, but nothing is planned for the near future”, as a source told whatcar.com.
If the Audi Q1 finally makes it into production, this will have some serious competition from models like the Nissan Juke, the Ford EcoSport, the Opel Mokka or even the Peugeot 2008. Sadly we don’t have any more details on the model for now.
