Audi Q3 – first official sketches image

Audi will hold the world debut of the new Audi Q3 crossover at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show later this month. Until then here are the official design sketches from Audi. The Q3 is Audi’s answer to BMW X1 and Range Rover Evoque.

From what we see of Audi’s design sketches of the Q3, it appears to be a punchier, smaller version of the Q5. If you were expecting something revolutionary, you will be disappointed.

Power for the new Q3 is expected to include a 200-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo TFSI engine, a 3.0-liter diesel for Europe, and a 333-horsepower 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 in a performance trim.

Audi said that it sold a total of 64,122 cars in China and Hong Kong during the first quarter of 2011, a 24.5 percent increase over the same period a year ago.

“Following our record-breaking results last year, in the first quarter of 2011 we once again achieved continuous growth in China,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG. “For 2011 as a whole we are targeting sales of around 280,000 units there.”

Production of the Q3 SUV by Volkswagen AG would begin at its Martorell plant near to Barcelona. This would create about 700 new job opportunities and Volkswagen is doing this work for its sister brand the Audi.
An agreement has been signed between Catalan government’s Department of Business and Employment and Seat wherein Seat would train new workers to build the Q3.
