When BMW introduced X6 SAC – Sports Activity Coupé in the second quarter of 2008, a series of people from the world of motoring press considered it absurd and useless.
However, demand for the unique and sporty AWD machine has far exceeded expectations, and now Audi wants to create a competitor for the sporty SAC.
The latest figures provided by BMW reveal overall sales of 110,622 – some 43,322 of which were recorded in 2010, including 3082 X6Ms.
While not much is known about the Audi Q6 and what all it’s specifications will be, it is anticipated that the Q6 will sit between the Q5 and Q7 and will be an out and out coupe crossover that will promise a car like handling with an SUV like street presence.
Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler told German reporters at the Geneva Motor Show that a BMW X6 competitor was in the minds of Audi’s research and development and product planning people.
“We can imagine a model between the Q5 and the Q7,” Mr Stadler said, as reported byAutoweek. “A coupe-like, four-wheel-driven model.”
Sportier Q6 S and Q6 RS are also rumored, the latter to bear the turbo 4.0-liter V-8 expected to show in the RS6 later this year.
