The brand new Audi R18 e-tron Quattro has been officially unveiled as this will be competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
After showing us the new generations of the R8 supercar and the Q7 SUV recently, Audi has also taken the time to make the new R18 e-tron Quattro. The model in question has been officially unveiled by Audi Motorsport and it is getting a more aerodynamic body, the reshaped headlights which have received the matrix LED and Audi Laserlight technologies, the new engine cover, new front wing and new hood.
“The fresh look results from a new way of conducting airflow around and through the front end, in the area of the sidepods and at the rear of the LMP1 prototype. Large air inlets in the front wheel arches reduce aerodynamic drag of the body and have led to an all-new design of the headlights”, said the carmaker in its official press release.
Two body configurations are available for the updated racer for the various tracks of the 2015 World Endurance Championship, but if you were hoping for probably a new monocoque, we have to tell you that this has been carried over from the previous model. Both of them are benefitting from the braking energy recovery system and they are getting an upgraded electric motor, producing 272 HP (200 kW), backed up by a 4.0 liter TDI V6 diesel engine, rated at 558 HP (410 kW). The total weight of the racing car stands at 870 kg and it is burning 2.5 less percent diesel than last year.
