The German based automaker Audi is planning to develop a whole new supercar which will be a direct rival for the upcoming McLaren P1.
Audi has big plans for its models and with the company already announcing new cars which will enter its lineup over the following years, a new supercar is now entering our news. According to Franciscus Van Meel, the Quattro GmbH managing director, the car manufacturer upcoming diesel-electric supercar will rival the McLaren P1 in terms of performance and top speed. The new Audi supercar is rumored to be called the R20 and it should be a street-legal LeMans vehicle.
The Audi R20 will probably get an adjustable rear wing, which could function as an air brake, similar to what Bugatti is using on the Veyron, along with LED headlights, a single-frame grille, gullwing doors and more tweaks which will make it irresistible to its future customers. The Audi R20 is expected to be powered by a V6 TDI twin-turbo engine, backed up by two electric motors powering the front wheels, which will probably develop a total output of 700 HP (515 kW). Additional details on the model are limited for the moment but the supercar might be unveiled in 2015 during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Production could start in 2016 and just 100 to 250 units might be assembled.
