According to CarandDriver, Audi is preparing a cabrio version of R8.
The new R8 is proposed to be launch in the second half of 2009, after the V-10 coupe ( in Europe. – US customers will have to wait until 2010 or 2011 if they want an R8 cabrio.). The problem is that even if you have money to buy one, you will have to wait at least eight-month and this for the standard R8.
Michael Dick, Audi’s member of the board of management for technical development, in an interview with Car and Driver tells that, “Audi can only make 27 units of the hot car a day and the capacity can’t be expanded”.
As for putting the 6.0-liter V-12 diesel (500 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque) from the Q7 into the R8—as was teased in a concept at the 2007 North American International Auto Show—Dick says a decision has not been made on putting it into production. And even if it is a go, it might be Europe-only, which is the case with the Q7 V-12 TDI.
