Audi is planning to unveil the facelifted version of the R8 supercar at the Moscow Motor Show in August this year, and the model is expected to be launched in 2014.
Even if there is no official word on the facelifted Audi R8 yet, the guys at autocar.co.uk are saying that the refreshed version is expected to be launched in 2014 and it might make its debut at the 2012 Moscow Motor Show in August. Our source is also telling us that the model is being developed along with the Lamborghini Gallardo successor and it has already been codenamed as the AU724.
The Lamborghini Gallardo successor and the facelifted Audi R8 will have a lot in common, just like the current generations, starting with the carbon fiber and aluminum monocoque, which weighs 198 kg (437 lbs), which will help the upcoming German supercar to weigh 60 kg (132 lbs) less than the current R8, with the targeted curb weight being 1.500 kg (3.307 lbs).
The two engines currently available on the Audi R8 are expected to come with minor modifications in order to improve performance and increase efficiency, so the 4.2 liter V8 might develop about 450 horsepower while the large 5.2 liter V10 will generate 550 horsepower. The GT variant of the R8 might be launched in 2016 and it will come with 580 horsepower.
