The German based automaker Audi is planning to offer a new range-topping version of the 2016 R8.
If you believe that the new generation of the Audi R8 is simply underpowered, your thoughts are going to change soon because the company is planning to offer a new range-topping version of it. According to the guys from Motoring, who have spoken to the carmaker’s technical development boss, Ulrich Hackenberg, the model in question might gain a turbocharged version.
“It is inevitable that we will go to a turbocharged motor for it at some point. It would be in this model cycle, to give us a fuller range”, said the Audi official.
Despite being close to hitting the assembly line, the new Audi R8 turbo remains into the shadows when it comes to its performance and it remains unknown at this point whether Lamborghini will offer a similar treatment for the Huracan. Meanwhile, we can remind you that the 2016 R8 is making use of a 5.2 liter V10 engine, which has been upgraded and it is now more powerful than the one used on its predecessor. This is offered in two outputs, with 540 HP (397 kW) & 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque, for the regular variant, and 610 HP (449 kW) & 650 Nm (413 lb-ft) in the Audi R8 V10 Plus. The new R8 has an evolutionary design and a lot of goodies in the cabin, including the 12.3-inch display, Bang & Olufsen audio system and more.
