Even if VW’s Audi has reported record figures for December and for the entire 2015 as well, it still remains behind the top 3 premium brands by a margin.
Audi reported that its US sales in 2015 increased by 11.1 percent from the previous annual record in 2014 to 202,202 units sold, while the December sales rose by 6.0 percent to 20,399 vehicles. Last month represented the best-ever one in US sales results in Audi history, as well as the 60th consecutive month of record in the States. The previous December peak was set a year ago with sales of 19,238 vehicles. 2015 marks the sixth consecutive year of upward sales trend for Audi in the US and the first time the automaker has achieved annual figures of more than 200,000. In the US luxury segment, BMW retained its crown with 346,023 cars sold, while Toyota Motor’s Lexus delivered 344,601 units and 343,088 for Daimler AG’s Mercedes.
The other Volkswagen-owned brand, Porsche, has records to boast with. Porsche Cars North America has announced December 2015 sales of 3,936 vehicles, up 20.2 percent over December 2014. This brought 2015 figures to a close at 51,756 vehicles, a new sales pinnacle and a 10.1 percent rise over 2014.
