The Ingolstadt-based automaker has announced it will feature the worldwide premiere of the new generation 2017 A5 Coupe next month, with the event scheduled for June 2.
In order to tease the model, the automaker has opted for an interesting showing – we’re not being treated to the usual off-focus video or partial body sketch/render/picture. Instead Audi will have a 3D video mapping light show at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt set to start on Wednesday, May 25, and lasting for six consecutive evenings. It will be titled “Audi Late Light Show” and the even has been staged by the Hungarian group of artists “Maxin10sity.” The Audi Forum building – a 2,300-square-meter facility – will have the entry free of charge and it will host 55 video projectors, each with a light intensity of 40,000 ANSI lumen. The ten-minute show is, according to the company, a “thank-you to the Audi employees and the people of Ingolstadt” where the A5 is being built.
As far as the new generation A5, we already know Audi’s approach to design – so expect subtle changes – and underneath the metal it will be all new. It rides on the MLB Evo architecture and should tip the scales about 220 pounds (100 kilograms) less. The engine / gearbox combos will be coming from the 2016 A4 Sedan and Avant, with the top of the range being the 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine. In the S5 Coupe it will boast 354 horsepower (260 kilowatts) and 369 pound-feet (500 Newton meters) of torque and later on the RS5 Coupe might come to the party with a rumored 480 hp (353 kW).
