Yesterday we told you about the Australian media getting the full scoop on the upcoming Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo and XR8 Sprint models that serve as the automaker’s swan song in the country.
Looking to leave Ford Australia fans with a performance farewell, the Blue Oval company has decided to look at the high performance Falcon Sprint series – these 2016 Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo Sprint and 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint will be the newest and last special series models for the full-size sedan’s seventh (and final) generation. The Falcon will cease production in October 2016 and Ford isn’t planning a replacement for the model – meaning the 1,400 Sprint units will serve as valuable collectibles in the near future. The XR6 Turbo Sprint will be produced in 550 units, with the rest going to the XR8 Sprint. The former boasts a 4-liter turbo straight-6 with 436 horsepower and 576 Nm (425 lb-ft) of torque, which can even be taken to 496 horsepower and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) for a while thanks to the overboost function. The six speed automatic will be the only gearbox option.
The iron monger will be the 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint with its supercharged 5.0-liter V8 goes all the way up to 536 horsepower and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque using the overboost function. The Sprint model of the XR6 Turbo series comes with injectors from the F6, a bigger intercooler, turbo, and intake, as well as a lower airbox. The XR8 Sprint meanwhile brags with the setup taken from the FPV GT-F, even down to the six speed auto’s calibration. The prices leaked have also been confirmed: the 2016 Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo Sprint starts at AUD 54,990 (around $38,655) and the 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint will go for at least AUD 59,900 ($42,105) with manual or AUD 62,190 ($43,715) with the automatic.
