New vehicle sales in Australia reached a new record high in June.
Last month new vehicle sales in Australia increased 22.7% to 118,758 units thanks to the dealers’ special offers aimed at clearing the lots by the end of this financial year. Demand was stronger in the commercial and SUV segments. According to the Australian Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries VFACTS sales after adjusting for seasonal factors were up 5.8%.
Sales during the first six months of the year were up 4.7% compared with the same period last year and sales in June 2012 increased 5.5%. SUV sales jumped 8.3% and the light commercial market rose 15.3%, thanks to solid investments. The best seller in the market for June was Toyota, even if its market share dropped to 18.7%. GM’s Holden sales increased 8.8%, Hyundai was up 8.3%, Ford up 8.2% and Mazda increased 8.1%.
