Auto Sales: French car sales in March up 6.1 percent image

In March 2011, with 257,631 registrations, the French market for passenger vehicles was up 6.1%, as the effect of orders that were bolstered by government buying incentives at the end of last year continued to have a positive impact, auto makers’ association CCFA said on Friday.

In the first three months of 2011, with 647,552 registrations, the French market for passenger cars was up 8.9% in raw data and 7.2% at comparable number of working days over the same period of 2010 (64 days from January to March 2011 and 63 days from January to March 2010).

Of the two major French carmakers, PSA Peugeot Citroen SA (UG.FR) saw registrations of its cars rise 13.5% in March on the year, while those of Renault SA (RNO.FR) fell 12.4%.
