Russia’s largest carmaker AvtoVAZ has announced it will launch sales of the Lada Granta budget car on December 22.
AvtoVAZ has already begun shipping cars to dealers so that customers who have booked the car in advance can be assured of deliveries in all areas of the country.
All vehicle bookings will be delivered by March 2012 at the latest, the company has announced. The standard version of the Lada Granta is priced in Russia at 229,000 rubles ($7,135), while the „Norm” version starts at 256,000 rubles ($7,980). Production of the compact sedan, which will replace the classic Samara and Kalina sedan models, has begun on November 29. All cars produced in 2011 will be delivered to those who booked preliminary orders on the granta.lada.ru website and signed an official agreement with a dealer.
AvtoVAZ plans to build over 150,000 Granta cars in 2012 and the company also aims to launch production at the recently acquired Izhevsk plant halfway through next year.
