Painting the roses blue, the BBC has recently announced their intention to have on the air the latest Top Gear Christmas special episode, even though the three hosts – Clarkson, Hammond and May – left the show months ago.
The Christmas special has been billed as the “Top Gear: From A-Z,” and we’re expecting the usual “two-part extravaganza” that would have crowned the show’s incredibly successful run from 2002 and up until 2015. The show has brought in as a voiceover John Bishop and will deliver “astonishing footage, insider facts and quirky statistics from the past 13 years of the world’s biggest motoring show.” We’re unsure if the three former hosts will cuddle around a bonfire to watch the episode on Christmas day and in fact we know very few details about the episode itself, but the BBC might want to clear some of the shame by delivering a look back at the years of a great show. We are also rumored to see lots of behind-the-scenes action – though most likely not the troublesome incident that led to the fallout between the station and Clarkson and then Hammond and May.
A mysterious star from the Top Gear celebrity fold is also expected and fans will be treated to the usual array of stunts and pranks committed during the now-extinct age. According to official word, the special will also showcase the “brilliant journalism, beautiful photography, and the trio of middle aged men who sat at the heart of the show.” It also appears that not much new footage will actually be seen, so we’re eagerly expecting to see if the BBC nailed a proper sendoff to the three men that elevated the series to a global phenomenon.
