BBR Turbo takes the Mazda MX-5 Miata to 248 hp in the US image

British tuning firm BBR has an enticing offer that is also available in the United States, a befitting turbo kit upgrade for the Mazda MX-5 – and they have inherent credibility, since they started modifying the iconic Japanese roadster since 1990.

The latest generation has now been graced with what they call an introductory “Stage 1″ upgrade kit (so they must have even more) – upgrading the power to 248 horsepower (185 kilowatts) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque. This will allow the BBR MX-5 Turbo to max out at 155 mph (250 kph), as well as jump to 60 mph (96 kph) in just five seconds. The conversion costs £6,000 fully-fitted and the company promises factory finish levels, full MOT emissions compliance and more. It’s also fully reversible, and BBR has applied for both CARB and TÜV official approval.

You’re also going to have lots of fun with the BBR MX-5 – full power comes from the Skyactiv-G engine at 7,150 rpm and peak torque arrives at 3,250 rpm, with at least 200 lb-ft (271 Nm) in between 2,750-6,500 rpm. The kit, available in the US through distributor Flyin’ Miata, comes with a twin-scroll turbo, as opposed to a supercharger or single-scroll turbo – due to the engine’s high efficiency and intricate 4-2-1 exhaust manifold.
