The luxury Japanese automaker has started the teasing game for the upcoming introduction of the facelifted IS model, which is scheduled to appear in front of the worldwide audience during Auto China 2016, starting next week.
We’ve been treated with the third generation IS midsize sedan back in 2013 and the model is looking for a new lease of life with its first major refresh – as far as we can see from the attached teaser it will come with a new design for the headlights and the front bumper. The corporate spindle grille remains just as massive and appears to be surrounded by a chrome trim. Other modifications are unseen from the angle provided by the automaker but the rumor mill calls for tweaked taillights and some subtle modifications of the rear bumper to keep the sports sedan appealing. Some revisions of the interior may also happen with an update to the infotainment system and more high-tech features, such as additional driver assistance systems.
So far we don’t know if the brand will also bring powertrain modifications. In the US the model can be had as a 200t with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine sporting 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and sending power to the rear wheels. The next level is the IS 300 AWD with naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 bringing 255 hp and 236 lb-ft, followed by the IS 350 (RWD or AWD) delivering 306 hp and 277 lb-ft. There’s also the usual option of a hybrid, the 300h, which marries a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 223 hp (164 kW).
