The owner of MG Motor, SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), has pulled the wraps off its latest creations, the Icon SUV and the MG5, at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show in China.
The MG Icon SUV has leaked over the internet just a few days of its official debut at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show and the model is once again placed into the spotlights at the Chinese automotive event. According to the car manufacturer, the MG Icon SUV has been codenamed the AS21 and the model is actually a preview of a production vehicle which should be launch locally in 2014. The five-door MG Icon SUV is similar in size to the Nissan Juke and besides the Japanese vehicle it will also go against the Ford Ecosport, the Opel Mokka or the Peugeot 2008. The model’s engines are expected to come from SAIC.
Besides the MG Icon SUV, the company has also presented the MG5 during the same 2012 Beijing Motor Show and the five-door hatchback will go on sale on the local auto market this summer. According to the car manufacturer, the MG5 is a C-segment hatchback which will be powered by a 1.8 liter petrol engine which is developing around 105 BHP. The European version will get more engines with capacities between 1.0 and 1.5 liters and outputs ranging from 115 BHP and 162 BHP. More details about the model will be announced close to its launch.
