One year after the unveiling of the Lounge Console Concept for the XC90 SUV, now Volvo shows in Beijing how this feature could fit into a S90 Excellence.
The Swedish premium brand said the original Lounge Console Concept in the XC90 displayed at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show had such a positive feedback that Volvo wanted to take it a step closer to reality. The innovative lounge experience idea has been now translated to the company’s flagship, the S90 Excellence premium sedan. “With this interior we wanted to create a piece of art, a sculpture. We’ve taken many of the original concepts and made them come to life,” said Robin Page, Vice President Interior Design at Volvo Cars.”
One of the concept’s key elements is the removal of the front passenger seat to enhance the perception of space and light, to provide unrestricted forward visibility, a layout “that it has an immediate and extremely calming effect.” In the back, the design team added comfortable seats and a centre control panel that incorporates features such as heated/cooled cup holder, sound system, massage function and a multi-media screen. The rear armrest is home to a refrigeration unit and comes complete with two hand-cut crystal glasses from Swedish glassmaker Orrefors.
The Lounge Console Concept in the S90 Excellence offers three alternatives for its passengers. It can be a mobile working station that combines a fold-out table and the tablet-like display for checking emails or video conferencing, or it can serve as a pure entertainment cabin to watch movies. Finally, the cabin can transform itself into a pure relaxation area where you can recline your seat, take a cold drink from the fridge and relax with your feet on the heated foot support.
