2 weeks ago when we announced the introduction of the new Bentley Continental GT, we also announced that the new Continental GT will be offered with an all-new 4.0-liter V8 engine starting late 2011. But how about this new engine.
Well according to some rumors this new V8 engine will be made in collaboration with Audi, leaving them fully capable of utilizing this engine for a number of high performance Audi models.
Bentley, though, hasn’t given any indication of power output yet, though the 550 number was mooted in reference to next year’s RS7 Sportback. If that were true for a V8 Continental GT, it could be uncomfortably close to the base V12 output.
“We are adapting it four our purposes so that it delivers Bentley driving characteristics [lots of low-to-mid-range torque],” says Brian Gush, Bentley’s director of chassis and powertrain.
The automaker said that V8 wіƖƖ lower CO2 emissions bу 40 percent compared tο thе W12, listed аѕ 396 g/km. Even with thаt іn mind, 40 percent іѕ still a hυɡе jump.
The current 6.0 liter W12 engine delivers a total of 567 HP and 700 NM of torque.
