Bentley’s boss, Wolfgang Schreiber has recently confirmed the company’s plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the SUV, which will be the first of many to hit the market over the following years.
The development of a Bentley SUV isn’t a surprise anymore to anyone for the last two years as the carmaker has already unveiled the EXP 9 F Concept, but what comes as something new is the “moving on with the times” strategy which will include adding a plug-in hybrid version to the SUV. The announcement has been made by Wolfgang Schreiber, the Bentley chairman and chief executive, when speaking with Auto Express.
“The SUV will be the first Bentley hybrid because it’s based on a new platform with new technology. You need space for batteries and the technology, so we probably won’t do that for existing models. We will see hybrid versions of all of our cars, though”, said the Bentley boss.
The SUV development is on track for a 2016 launch so the debut of the final production version should be made sometimes next year. The plug-in hybrid version will become available for order probably in 2017 and this will serve as a starting point for other models in the company’s lineup to get an electric motor under their bodies, to work in tandem with the petrol burners.
