Bentley plans to sell 3,000 SUVs annually after production starts in 2015.
Although production of a Bentley SUV is still unconfirmed, the company talks about it with optimism. The company revealed the EXP 9 F SUV concept in Geneva, and it was warmly welcomed by the media. Bentley said that that a new design was already being developed for more traditional SUV styling.
At the Beijing Auto Show, Bentley said a couple of powertrains are under consideration, among which the company’s flagship 6.0-liter W12 engine and new 4.0-liter V8 unit, as well as a V6 plug-in hybrid. No information was given about the production date. Bentley CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer informed reporters that he is confident approval from parent company Volkswagen will be given by year’s end to build the SUV.
“At present, we are working out our internal Bentley business case and it looks very optimistic,” said Duerheimer.
The price is expected to vary between 160,000 euro ($210,000) and 200,000 euro, making it the most expensive SUV on the market. Duerheimer also said that the company plans to sell 3,000 SUVs annually beginning 2015, the year when production should start.
