Monza, Italy: The SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES started this year, with the season-opener at the Autodromo Nationale di Monza in Italy, where over 30.000 spectators attended to the event.
After two days of battles, Mercedes-AMG Romeo Ferraris team formed by Vitantonio Liuzzi and Thomas Biagi won first and second places, while Roma Racing Team’s Luigi Ferrara scored third place twice on his brand-new 550hp Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupè.
Liuzzi, the former F1 driver led all laps in the kickoff race, although Thomas Biagi was still close behind and was just 0.589 seconds behind by the time the race ended.
Second race begun and this time Biagi worked his way up from a fourth-row start all the way to second in short time, before overtaking erstwhile race leader Andrea Bacci of CAAL Racing Mercedes some laps later.
“We started the season in the best way thanks to the incredible work done by preparing all the men of Romeo Ferraris team, which with the support of Mercedes-AMG have put in my hands and in those of Vitantonio a car really perfect,” Biagi said shortly after the second race.
“I’m really happy to have Luigi as a driver. With him behind the wheel of the C63 AMG Coupè we can set our goals high. Last year in Pergusa we had a great feeling and that’s when I started thinking to give him a seat. Personally, I will focus on the role of team manager, with the goal of taking Roma Racing Team to compete with the best teams in the Superstars Series,” team manager Nico Caldarola said.
Reigning champion Johan Kristoffersson was a shock withdrawal from the race, his Petri Corse Porsche’s engine problems leaving him on the sidelines.
