BMW is planning to reveal the 1-Series GT in a world premiere this autumn, during the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
The German based automaker didn’t announce anything official about the BMW 1-Series GT just yet but that doesn’t mean that the model can be ignored and rumors are saying that the model will be officially presented to the public in September, at the similar to the new-gen Mercedes-Benz B-Class in order to differentiate from the regular 1-Series hatchback.
The new BMW 1-Series GT is based on the same platform as the next generation of the MINI, which will go on sale in 2013. Rumors are saying that the 1-Series GT and the MINI will be offered with both three- and four-cylinder engines but the German vehicle will be more powerful. Powertrain options in the 1-Series GT will include the three-cylinder 1.5 liter unit and the four-cylinder 2.0 liter unit, both of them gasoline, along with a three-cylinder 1.5 liter diesel with more than 100 HP and a larger four-cylinder 2.0 liter diesel. Engines will be mated to six-speed manual transmissions as standard or to eight-speed automatic, which will become available as options. The BMW 1-Series GT will hit the dealerships in 2013 and it will be followed by hybrid and electric versions.
