A brand new model signed by BMW, the 1-Series GT, has been recently spied inside one of the company’s test facilities.
The German based automaker BMW is quite busy these months and after telling us about the facelifted 5-Series and M5, and with the new X5 and X6 generations in the pipeline, or the X4 and the X2 coming soon, the carmaker is also getting ready to produce an MPV too. Yes, it’s not a typo, BMW is producing an MPV, soon. The model in question will be named the 1-Series GT and it has been recently spied at one of the company’s test facilities, with a lot of camouflage on its body.
The upcoming BMW 1-Series GT is based on the Concept Active Tourer, which has been officially presented to the public during the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The 1-Series GT will be longer and it will have longer rear door, than the concept version and it will ride on a new front-wheel drive platform, which will also underpin the future generation of the MINI Cooper, in 2014, despite the concept car being AWD and having a hybrid powertrain. AWD might be offered as an option, along with the 1.5L three-cylinder petrol burner, mated to an electric motor. The model will aim the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and it’s expected to be unveiled in Frankfurt, in September.
