The new BMW ActiveHybrid 7 L will start at $84, 895 in the U.S. The new ActiveHybrid 7 L will be available in the United States as a long-wheelbase model only.
The ActiveHybrid 7 drive system is built around a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder (N55) engine that can produce 235kW. This engine replaces a more powerful V8 engine that does not fit into the fuel-efficient ethos of the new 7 Series.
Other hybrid components include the 40 kW/55 hp synchronous electric motor, the hybrid-spec eight-speed automatic transmission, a lithium-ion high-performance battery and power electronics underpinning intelligent energy management.
With combined output of 349 horsepower and peak torque of 367 pound-feet, the new BMW ActiveHybrid 7 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.7 seconds.
The hybrid can also go as fast as 37 miles per hour in all-electric mode.
At the same time, the sedan posts average fuel economy of 6.8 litres per 100 kilometres (41.5 mpg) and CO2 emissions of 158 g/km.
As expected the vehicle comes with features like regenerative braking and Auto Start-Stop that conserve energy during daily commutes.
The new BMW 7 Series will make its public debut in Paris in September and will arrive at US dealerships soon after. The ActiveHybrid7 will arrive early fall.
