BMW has begun production of the MINI Countryman at its Chennai plant, India.
BMW’s decision to manufacture the MINI Countryman in India was taken due to the increased demand for the MINI cars in the region. The Countryman is the first premium small car to be manufactured in India and the automaker expects a significant sales increase in the medium and long term.
“A new chapter is set to be written in MINI’s global success story as cars from the British premium brand roll off an assembly line outside Europe for the first time. The Group today announced the commencement of local production of MINI Countryman at BMW Plant near Chennai,” BMW India said in a statement.
The Chennai plant, which covers an area of 40 acre at Mahindra World City in Singaperumalkoil, also manufactures the BMW 3 series, 5 series, the X1 and the X3. The plant was built one year after the MINI entered India and it will produce the two diesel variants, the MINI Cooper D Countryman and MINI Cooper D Countryman High, as well as a petrol variant. BMW said that the MINI Cooper S Countryman High, the MINI Cooper S Countryman and the petr
