BMW confirms the return of iconic 8 Series with Villa d’Este teaser image

The Bavarian brand has been teasing us with hints of the possible comeback of the iconic 8 Series nameplate ever since they presented the great looking Gran Lusso Coupe back in 2013 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

This year’s edition of the show is going to be even more special because the company is simply confirming the return by teasing us to the approaching introduction of the appropriately named “8 Series Coupe Concept.” We’re not going to have to wait long for the official unwrapping, which is scheduled for May 26 when we’ll get the preview for what to expect from the production version in the near future. The teaser for now depicts a shadowy profile with a steep roofline and wide rear fenders complete with prominent trunk lid spoiler.

We should see this new 8 Series Coupe Concept further refine the looks of the aforementioned Gran Lusso Coupe and we’re hoping the production model will follow suit and shake things up at BMW in terms of design. More so, BMW is making clear the new concept is a “design study” that comes as a preview for the road-going model expected next year and assuming the flagship status from the 7 Series.
