The largest luxury automaker in the world has announced the M3 and M4 high-performance models will have a neat sports update ready for this spring to start the season with a bang.
BMW M chief Frank van Meel spilled the beans on the Competition Package upgrades while being interviewed recently as he said the M3 sedan, M4 Coupe, and M4 Convertible triumvirate will take the mantle of the Competition Package. The M boss said the offer will be extended to owners of the three models starting this very spring. “We will be offering a Competition Package for each of the three body variants as of spring 2016,” he commented during the interview. In its current guise, the M3/M4 trio comes packing a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbocharged engine delivering 431 horsepower, with the limited-series M4 GTS sporting the company’s brand new water injection technology churns out a total of 500 hp. From what we know from the rumor mill, the Competition Package should deliver a power increase of about 30 hp.
“In addition to extensive measures to further enhance driving dynamics and agility, this package also comprises various exclusive equipment details as well as an increase in engine output,” Van Meel added. Reports treat the Competition Package with lighter multi-spoke wheels, a fresh take on the rear diffuser most likely to house the modified exhaust system. We could get the very first glimpse of the Competition Package during the traditional online reveal sometimes next month with the real deal showcased for the public in March during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
