The latest model from the Munich based automaker to be caught by our spy photographers while testing on the road is the FAST – Family Activity Sports Tourer. If you remember all the hustle, this will be the very first BMW with front wheel drive.
Based on the new UKL1 platform, the FAST is just an internal designation, as we already saw the concept form, namely the BMW Active Tourer. Anyway, the production model and its official designation are expected to come in front and all wheel drive, while rumors suggest the model will take the 1 Series moniker, and the current 1 Series will be renamed as the 2 Series.
Under the bonnet, a variety of 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options are expected, ranging from an extremely fuel efficient unit producing around 75 hp, up to a more powerful petrol producing around 155 hp. Sporting a mini MPV profile style, the new model is set to tackle the likes of Audi A3 Sportback and also be used as basis for future Mini models.
