F1 driver Timo Glock may be on his way to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) this season, as BMW has offered him a test session in Valencia this week.
BMW confirmed that Glock will test the M3 DTM car in Spain, but said that it will only be an opportunity for the German to familiarise himself with the car.
The news comes just two days after Glock’s departure from the Marussia F1 team, a year before the end of his contract. BMW Motorsport director Jens Marquardt knows Glock from their days at the Toyota F1 squad. “We are pleased to be able to offer Timo Glock the opportunity to get to know our BMW M3 DTM in Valencia. It is made all the nicer by the fact that he is, to a certain degree, returning to his roots in testing for BMW Motorsport,” Marquardt said.
“I have fond memories of my time with BMW Motorsport and am very excited about testing the BMW M3 DTM,” said Glock. His career has been focused on single-seaters so far and began in the Formula BMW one-make series in Germany.
BMW will enter eight M3s in the DTM this year, with seven of its race drivers for 2013 having already been announced. Maxime Martin was confirmed as BMW test and reserve driver a week ago.
