The round blue-and-white logo has been a distinguishing feature for fans of the Bayerische Motoren Werke brand since its very beginning, but BMW is looking to change that for its flagship model lines.
There’s a growing trend to stir the pot when there’s no need to – just look at Audi’s new naming nomenclature that has left virtually everybody (we suspect some internal headaches as well) in the dark. Now BMW is following suit – albeit in a more civilized manner, as they’re only opting for a new black-and-white version of the manufacturer’s roundel for the top tier models to make sure everyone understands these are more exclusive than other BMWs. The new badge is being slated for the upcoming new 8 Series, i8, the unreleased i8 roadster, 7 Series, and production series X7.
These new “elite models” are also getting the company name, “Bayerische Motoren Werke,” written out in full to further highlight the brand’s heritage and new “understated aesthetic.” “The flagship models in the BMW portfolio embody a new understanding of luxury – one which brings together an emotionality defined by inspirational aesthetics and the joy of driving with the experience of freedom and self-determined individuality,” explains the manufacturer.
