The German based automaker BMW is planning to develop the 8-Series as a rival for the brand new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, and the model might be inspired by the Gran Lusso Coupe.
The brand new BMW Gran Lusso Coupe, which was officially unveiled a couple of weeks ago, during the 2013 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, at Lake Como, in Italy, is much more important to the German based automaker than initially thought. According to the guys at Automotive News Europe, the model in question might give birth to the much awaited 8-Series, which will rival the brand new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, amongst others.
The carmaker didn’t officially announce its plans to develop the BMW 8-Series starting from the Gran Lusso Coupe, so additional details on the subject remain unknown for the moment. AS a quick reminder, the BMW Gran Lusso Coupe has been developed with Pininfarina, and the model is based on a rear-wheel drive version of the BMW 7-Series platform, being powered by a 6.0 liter turbocharged V12 engine, which is producing a total output of 536 HP. The unit is used on the 760i. The BMW 8-Series used to be produced between 1989 and 1999, as a rival for the CL, the S-Class based coupe.
