The German based automaker BMW has recently released some new details on the production version of the i3, which will be unveiled later on this month.
The brand new BMW i3 will get the 125 kW and 250 Nm of torque electric motor under its hood, which will send power to the rear wheels through a single-speed transmission. This configuration will allow the model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds, which is comparable to a B-segment hot hatch. Top speed will be limited to 150 km/h. The fully charged lithium-ion battery will provide a range of 130 – 160 km and it can rise by approximately 20 km in Eco Pro mode, while in the Eco Pro+ mode it will get a range of 200 km.
From a fast charger, the battery can be completely recharged in less than 30 minutes, while using a standard power socket it will take about 8 hours. A range extending engine will be offered as an option of the new BMW i3, which will provide another 25 kW. This will be a 650 cc two-cylinder petrol unit, which will be mounted above the rear axle and it will increase the range to approximately 300 km. Features like the active cruise control, collision warning, parking assistant and some other tweaks will also become available. The new BMW i3 will be officially unveiled, in its final production version, on the 29th of July, in New York.
