The German based automaker BMW is planning to introduce the final production version of the i8 in September, during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The announcement hasn’t been made official just yet but according to the guys at Auto Express, BMW will drop a price tag of 150,000 GBP, on the i8, once the final production version of the model will go on sale in late 2013. The model in question will get a 2+2 seating arrangement and it will be offered in two body styles, coupe and convertible, with the fixed roof version going on sale first, being followed by the drop top probably in 2014.
The new BMW i8 is said to use a 1.5 liter three-cylinder petrol engine, mid-mounted, which should produce 220 HP and 300 Nm of torque, sent to the rear axle, being backed up by an electric motor, generating 129 HP and 250 Nm of torque, which will be sent to the front wheels. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in the BMW i8 should take just 4.6 seconds, while its top speed will stand at 250 km/h (155 mph). Additional details on the BMW i8’s production version will be announced in Frankfurt, in a couple of months.
