The first images with the BMW i8 Spyder, based on the production i8 Coupe, have recently hit the web and they might provide us with a first look into the second body style of the impressive model.
The development of the BMW i8 Spyder has been rumored for quite a few months and with its solid roof brother making its world debut, in final production form, during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, a couple of days ago, the drop-top may be even closer to its official unveil. The images posted below are renderings of the BMW i8 Spyder, which have been created by Theophilus Chin.
The BMW i8 Spyder is expected to get exactly the same features and engine as the Coupe so expect the 1.5 liter three-cylinder gasoline TwinPower Turbo unit and an electric motor, with the internal combustion engine producing 231 HP (170 kW) and 320 Nm of torque (236 lb-ft), sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission, and the electric motor generating 131 HP (96 kW), sent to the front-wheel drive through a two-stage automatic gearbox. The 5 kWh lithium-ion battery will also make its way onto the model. The i8 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and it has a total range of more than 500 km (310 miles).
