BMW Introduces Interactive Speed Limit Information for Australia

BMW Australia has launched an interactive speed limit information system which displays the limit applicable to your current location in the instrument cluster or Head-Up Display.

How does ths system know what the speed limits are exactly? Well using cameras mounted on the side mirrors of course Once the camera picks up the speed limit from a road sign, the information is displayed for the driver and also sent to the OBC to compare to your current speed.

According to BMW, speed limits which are temporarily changed – such as school zones or road works – are detected when there is a road sign.

“This technology is a first for the Australian market, and typifies the approach BMW takes in respect to development of cutting-edge technology solutions,” explained BMW Australia’s Managing Director Stavros Yallouridis.

The system will become available on the BMW 760Li, 750Li and 750i later this year as a standard feature. The rest of the 7 Series range, as well as the 5 Series Gran Turismo, 5 Series Sedan and 5 Series Touring will get Speed Limit technology as an option, for AU$700.
