BMW has announced the production start of the new M2 Coupe in its Leipzig facility, in Germany.
The brand new BMW M2 Coupe is ending up in our news once more, this time with the carmaker announcing its production start. According to the company, the flagship variant of the 2-Series assembly is taking place on the main line, along with the 2-Series Coupe, 2-Series Convertible, 2-Series Active Tourer and 1-Series 5-door. The total production volume stands at approximately 750 vehicles in the Leipzig facility.
“The BMW Group plant in Leipzig consolidates its extraordinary importance for the flexible production of exclusive cars for the global market with the start of production of the BMW M2 Coupe. Leipzig is the only production site of the BMW Group, which manufactures vehicles the core brand BMW, and BMW i and BMW M models. The M2 coupe replaces the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, which was also built in the years 2011 and 2012 in Leipzig”, says the automaker in its press release
The BMW M2 Coupe is packing an aggressive body kit, which is making the car more aerodynamic than the M235i and hotter looking. It has the revised front grille, the aggressive front fascia, 19-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, the four tailpipe exhaust system, widened wheel arches, front fender vents and so on. Under its hood we can find the 3.0 liter M TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine, capable of putting down a total of 365 HP (268 kW) and 464 Nm (343 lb-ft) of torque. From 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph), the automatic version needs 4.3 seconds and the manual can do it in 4.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
