BMW M2 to replace 1M Coupe image

The German based automaker BMW is planning to offer the upcoming M2 as a replacement for the impressive “pocket rocket”, the 1M Coupe.

The BMW 1M Coupe was loved by the company’s fans, who remembered the original E30 M3 from back in the days but the carmaker has decided to discontinue it. But now a new model is getting ready to act as a successor of the impressive 1M Coupe, the so-called M2. The model is a completely new car and it shouldn’t be confused with the M235i, even if it will use the same powertrain, the 3.0L turbo straight-six, producing 316 HP in the M135i and 350 HP in the M235i.

The upcoming M2 is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 4.6 seconds, the same as the current M3, and the mode will get both manual and automatic transmissions. The latter will be a seven-speed dual clutch. The M2 will also receive an even more aggressive body kit than the M235i, a set of quad exhausts and a new air intake into the front wing. Additional details on the future BMW M2 are limited for the moment and will be announced probably in 2015, when the model will be released.
