The recently updated 2 Series is getting a bit more enticing – offering an interesting option to those not looking for the top of the range M2 but still asking for a bit more attitude from the compact ride.
While the Life Cycle Impulse (BMW’s fancy way of describing a facelift) of the 2 Series is actually really meh and hard to spot unless you’re an ardent fan, this M240i M Performance Edition certainly has some enticing features. The double M doesn’t mean you’re getting double the car, though, as the changes compared to the M240i are also pretty subtle – though the package was enticing from the get go, so things are only looking up this instance. BMW’s new M Performance Edition is here to “express the athletic appeal of the compact sport coupe even more.”
The most important upgrade is the massaged 3.0-liter inline six now with 340 horsepower, sent to the wheels using a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox and even gaining the xDrive all-wheel drive system. The M Performance Edition has perks such as the Alpine White exterior with blacked out grille, carbon fiber mirror caps, and carbon fiber side skirts for an aggressive mix. Even more carbon fiber has been used in the back thanks to a rear spoiler and diffuser, which also incorporates a pair of carbon fiber exhaust tips. There’s a new front bumper with air inlets and massive splitter as well as new Orbit Gray finished 19-inch alloys – the M240i M Performance Edition models will only have 750 units with sales kicking off this July.
