BMW has officially unveiled the new M4 GTS Concept ahead of its public debut at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Designed to offer a preview of the final production model, the new BMW M4 GTS Concept is finally here and it has been officially unveiled over the web, before being shown to the public at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The model in question has a Frozen Dark Grey Metallic finish covering its body, Acid Orange accents, carbon fiber reinforced plastic hood, wider air intakes, carbon fiber front splitter and rear wing, OLED taillights, 19- and 20-inch lightweight forged alloy wheels, wrapped in Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires, 265/35 and 285/30 front to rear, and several other goodies, which are definitely helping it place some distance between it and the regular M4 Coupe.
The brand new BMW M4 GTS Concept is currently in its pre-production form and it is following the same footsteps as the BMW M3 Evolution, from 1988, the BMW M3 Sport Evolution, from 1990, the BMW M3 GT from 1995, the BMW M3 CSL from 2003, the BMW M3 GTS from 2010 and the BMW M3 CRT from 2011. The model in question has some obvious track capabilities but this still remains a fully road-legal vehicle, coming with new technologies and performance focused design elements which include the manually adjustable front splitter and rear wing, both of them made from carbon fiber.
The new BMW M4 GTS Concept has received the water injection system, from the BMW M4 MotoGT Safety Car, which is promising to increase power and torque figures. The carmaker is saying that water is being injected into the plenums of the intake manifold in a fine spray and when it vaporizes, the intake air is significantly cooling. The final compression temperature in the combustion chamber has been reduced and it is allowing the turbocharged engine to use higher boost pressure and earlier injection timing. The M4 GTS has a main radiator and additional radiators for the high- and low-temperature circuits, for the turbocharger and for the transmission. The one for the turbocharger has an indirect intercooler which is assisted by the electric water pump. Additional details on the new BMW M4 GTS Concept haven’t been released at this point and chances are they will be made public at the Pebble Beach event, where the model will be officially presented to the public.
