On the subject of BMW M5 special editions, the world’s largest luxury automaker has decided its US fans are just as special as the ones in the rest of the world, extending here the Pure Metal M5 market availability.
The new M5 Competition Edition limited run special series is available worldwide, but the M5 Pure Metal Silver is dedicated to the US market – where just 50 examples will become available. This is actually the same car as the one introduced in South Africa in October 2015 and called Pure Metal as well. This makes the two special editions practically identical, save for the compulsory US regulation modifications – which include the side marker lights.
Motivation is provided by the same biturbo 4.4-liter V8 engine massaged for a hulking 600 horsepower (441 kilowatts) and 516 pound-feet (700 Newton-meters) of torque. The limited run series has as standard amenities the Competition and M Driver’s packages which include numerous updates – including the higher top speed electronic cap activated at 190 mph (305 km/h).
The Pure Metal Silver M5 has 20-inch forged wheels and is 0.4 inches lower than a regular M5 thanks to the modified suspension that also includes stiffer damper systems and stabilizers settings. The limited model can only be ordered in Pure Metal Silver – allegedly the most exclusive paint in BMW Individual’s catalog. There’s also a black finish on the kidney grille and a carbon bezel on the M Performance exhaust system.
Inside there’s full leather Merino upholstery with contrast stitching and an individually-numbered badge to remind the owner it’s not a regular M5. The 50 unit run will have standard accessories such as a head-up display, full LED headlights, keyless entry, and others, Orders can be placed for the M5 Pure Metal Silver starting next month and pricing kicks off at $130,900 without the 995 destination and handling fees.
