The German based automaker BMW is planning to develop a new model, the i9, which is believed to be making its way onto the market in a couple of years.
After the development of the i3 urban cruiser and the i8 sports car, BMW now has bigger plans for its new “i” range as the carmaker wants to develop a new model. The announcement hasn’t been made official just yet, but according to the guys at BMW Blog, the model in question is believed to wear the i9 name and it should become available sometimes in 2016. The new BMW i9 will be based on the i8 and it will basically be a four-door sports car.
Rumors are saying that the vehicle in question is believed to get carbon fiber construction and chances are this will receive the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the i8, which basically means a 1.5 liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine, backed up by an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. The total output produced might stand at approximately 362 HP (266 kW) and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque. More details on the BMW i8 are limited for the moment and will probably be announced close to its debut.
